DEATH OF MRS WEST, WAITAHUNA.
Oar Waitahana correspondent writes : It is with regret I have to record the death of Mrs West, wife of Constable West, which happened rather unexpectedly at an early hour on Thursday morning. The deceased lady had been suffering for some considerable time bae*. bat bore up wonderfully well and Until the last week or two she always appeared bright and cheerful. The oause which led te the sad event had been only of very recent standing, but the opinions of the leading medical men both in the country districts and in Duaedin were that death was inevitable.and that an operation which was suggested, while it could not possibly prolong life to any considerable extent, would involve an unwarranted risk. Her actual illness did not exceed three weeks. Mrs West leaves a family of four children, three girb, the eldest being about 16 and a boy of 11 years of age. She was a native of the County Galway, Ireland, where she was married about 17 years ago, leaving for New Zealand with her hubband'on the day of her marriage and had been a resident of Waitahuna for about 15 years, where she was held in*high esteem by a large Dumber of friends. The deoeased lady will be much missed by the Anglican body in Waitahuna, having been a leading member of the choir of St. Matthew's Church and a member of the Ladies' Guild, and always.took a strong and. active interest in all movements haviog for their object the promotion of the interests of tht> Church. There is much sympathy for Mr W«st and his young family in the district in their sad bereavement. The remains will be interred in the Waitahuna Cemetery to-morrow .(Sao* day) afternoon. ' .*;._,
