DREDGING.

ROXBURGH. [Own Cobrbspondent.] In regard to the erection of the machinery on the Exoelsior dredge, X have to report that the Foreeo, elevator gear, top tumbler, and bracket for ladder shaft are in position, and the ladder and condenser are on board. There is a good portion of the machinery forward for the Ettrick dredge, and a large quantity is lying at the Lawrence railway station. The erection of the machinpry on the Endeavor dredge is nearing completion. The ■ contractor is now delayed by the non-arrival of the boiler. The Gold Queen dredge will Btart as soon as the river goes down to a suitable level. The Moa Flat dredge is in a similar position. The master of the Long Valley dredge expects to etart very soon. The Teviot dredge has reached the lower end of her claim, and will commence dredgidg when the river is low enough. The Gold King dredge is nearly ready for the erection of the machinery. The river on Sunday and Monday showed very favorable signs of falling fairly quickly. The annual meeting of the Golden Gate Dredging Company takes place in Dunedin on Thursday next. ' The Golden Bed dredge continues to keep her returns between 30oz and 40oz. On Saturday the waah»up was about 38oz. The Golden Chain pontoons are not yet ready for launching. I have no arrival to chronicle of the machinery for tbe Roxburgh Jubilee dredge. The fitting-up of the Gold Deposit machinery is proceeding steadily. The Bame state of affairs still exist in regard to the Coal Creek dredge. There is still hardly any machinery forward for the Golden Elbow dredge. The annual meeting of the Ladysmith Gold Dredging Co. was held in Roxburgh last Thursday evening. Mr H. Yeale [chairman of directors) presided. In reply to Mr Hart, the chairman said so much ground had been stripped ahead was to make room for building and launching a dredge when it was deoided to order a dredge. It was pointed out that the fact of Bhares being forfeited did not absolve the holder from his liability. The feport and balance-sheet were then adopted on the motive of the chairman and Mr Haines. The five retiring directors were re-elected unopposed. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Haines that it be an instruction to the direotors that before any steps are taken to procure a dredge, an extraordinary meeting of shareholders be called. I am informed on one hand that the Gibbs Beach dredge starts dredging on Monday ; and on the other, that some alternations (result of trial) are not yet completed.

Following are tbe returns for the week ended Saturday, 220 d Jane :—

The manager of the Golden Bun Pipes reports that he washed up 250z. The Molyneux was about lift Bin above • normal at Alexandra on Sturday: _

A team from the Waipori Football Club met the Lawrence Club's representatives at Glasgow Park on Saturday afternoon. The weather being fine there was a fair attendance of the public on the ground, each side receiving a fair amount of enoouragement from their respective supporters. The match, which waa played iv two spellfi o( 45 minutes each, did not prove an altogether interesting one from a spectator's point of view,it being essentially a forward game, the backs getting very little opportunity of distinguishing themselves either in passing or dashing runs. At an early stage of the game it was apparent that the visitors were j overmatched, but it must be said they played a good uphill game. Within a few minutes of the commencement of the first spell F. Vivian got a " mark " in Waipori twenty-five and, though the kick was a somewhat difficult angle, Jas. Robertson successfully converted it. Soon after T. Lee succeeded in getting over the line, but the kick was not successful. At half-time the Bcore stood, Lawrence 7 points, Waipori nil. In the second spell the Waipori team warmed up somewhat, and though they were mostly on the defensive they succeeded occasionally in getting their opponents back into their own twenty-five, and towards the close of the spell M'Cabe, by a very smart rush, got across the line and scored a try, which was converted. From this to the end of the game the play was fairly even and .when time was called the scores were: Lawrence, 10 points ? Waipori, S points, In the home team J. Robertson, J. Airey, F. Vivian and M. Oarruthers were prominent among the backp, Robertson's kicking being especially safe. Among the forwards Bryant, Montgomery, F. Robertson and T. Lee were the most conspicuous, though where all appeared to work well it is almost invidious to single out any for special mention. For the visitors J. M'Keich, M'Cabe brothers and J. Orr were prominent among the backs, while in the forward division it would be very difficult to single out any for special mention, Mr J. Bislop acted as referee and gave the greatest satisfaction to all, while M. Tohill and W. Anderson acted efficiently as line umpires. In the evening the visiting team were entertained at dinner at Kelleher's Railway Hotel.
