THE TREATMENT OF INEBRIATES.
Melbourne, August 18. The report of the commission on the treatment of habitual drunkards recommends the establishment of a retreat at French Island, persons committed there to- be compelled to work, and when released given an allowance proportional to the value of the work done. They recommend that criminal drunkards be kepi in country gaols, separate from other prisoners ; that the law be made more atriagent agaiaofc supplying cfrunkoa pereons and children with liquor ; that a hospital ward be set aside for the treatment of inebriates and other persons fonnd in the street insensible.
