TUAPEKA JOCKEY CLUB RACES.
Everything promises well for the success of the Tuapeka Jockey ( lub's annual meeting on Wednesday and Thursday next. Everything possible is being done by the committee to ensure tbat every satisfaction shall be given to horse owners' whose interests, as far as the improvement of the course is concerned, have not been lost sight of during the past twelvemonths. It is at present in course of being top dressed, after which it will be harrowed and rolled and should be in capital order against race-day. They are also removing the large bump or inequality in the ground in front of the judge's box, about the place wliere the trees were cut down that obscured the view of the spectators last year, and effecting other improvements- '1 he club have also erected a commodious booth, containing a roomy bar and dining room, which should tend considerably to the public comfort and convenience. It will thus be seen thafc the club are not unmindful of their obligations and are sparing no effort to increase the popularity of their annual meeting and maintain the high reputation it has acquired of being one of the best up-country meetings in Otago, Judging from the very satisfactory number of acceptances, which we publish today, and the high reputation of many of the competing horses, large fields, keenly contested events, and a couple of good days' sports generally may with certainty be anticipated. So complete, indeed, are all the preparations, and so promising does everything look that the weather alone is the only factor which remains to be considered. Should that be favorable, the largest assemblage of the public in the experience of the club may be expected. It may be added that some of the horses entered are coming from as far north as Oamaru and as far south as Gore, Dunedin al3o being well represented. The following are the acceptances for the first day's races of the Tuapeka County Jockey Club meeting to be held on the 19th instant : — Maiden Piate, one mile.
