PUSHING OUR EXPORT TRADE.
CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. At the Conference of delegates of Farmers' Co-operative Associations, at which the Hawke's Bay Association, United Farmers' Alliance (Wellington), New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association (Chriatchurch), Canterbury Farmers' Association (Timaru), and the J. G. Ward Farmers' Association (luvercargill) were represented, the following resolutions were carried :—: — 1. That the various associations here represented desire to most strongly bring before shipping companies the desirability of permitting a certain number of their cargo steamers with frozen mutton and other cargo to call at and discharge the whole or portion of the cargo at other ports than London— say Cardiff, Liverpool, Manchester, and Glasgow, or any of the other principal ports m the United Kingdom. 2. That to test the possibilities of the live stock export trade the shipping companies be asked on what terms they arc prepared, under guarantee from the co-operative associations, to carry 1,000 live shqgp, in five steamers in equal lots of 200 each, such steamers to proceed direct to the united Kingdom without calling at any foreign ports. 3. That, in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable steps should be takon to ascertain the possibilities of an extension of trade with China, Japan, and Western Asia ; and that the Government be asked whether they would contribute towards the expensi- of sending a delegate to make inquiries and report.
