The London " Standard " says that while a New Zealander was staying with a friend at Tunbridge Wells the latter wished to try some New Zealand mutton and asked his butcher to send him a joint, but was informed that the shopkeeper never kept it. When in London shortly afterwards, he called at Messrs Nelson's stores and asked how he could get New Zealand mutton at Tunbridge Wells. The reply was, -" Why don't you got it from Mr -1 — (the butcher who ' never kept it ')? He is one of our largest customers." The householder afterwards came to the conclusion that he had been eating New Zealand mutton j for yeara without knowing it.
