SHOOTING COMPETITION.
The first cf a series of five handicap competitions for a silver albeit and pendant, valued at 21s, and two trophies, valued, respectively, at 15s and 10s, was commenced at the Wttherstones range by the Tuapeka Rifles on Thursday, 2nd inst., and continued on the follow ing Saturday. The first-named day was pot favoufable for rejJord'SJiootipff, the wind being very unsteady | and on Saturday if was even worse, making good shooting almost impossible. Eighteen competitors came forward, amoDg them bcins: a number of young shots, who showed that with a little practice they will become first-class marksmen.
