Thomson having intimated to you that he has tendered to the Speaker the Resignation of his Office as your Representative in Parliament, I have the honour to acquaint you that I have consented to allow myself to be put in Nomination as a CANDIDATE at the ensuing Election of a Member to fill the vacancy thus caused. I have so consented in response to a widely-expressed desire that I should do so, and upon the assurance that my Candidature will meet with a very hearty support on the part of the Electors generally. I need scarcely inform you that I already have had some experience as a Member of the Parliament of the country, and my actions during that term of office are open to your fullest criticism. I shall take an early opportunity of meeting with you in the several centres, when I shall explain to you my opinions upon the political questions of the day, and consult with you as to the special requirements of the Electorate.
