Thomson having intimated to you that he has tendered to the Speaker the Resignation of his Office as your Representative in Parliament, I have the honour to acquaint you that I have consented to allow myself to be put in Nomination as a CANDIDATE at the ensuing Election of a Member to fill the vacancy thus caused. I have so consented in response to a widely-expressed desire that I should do so, and upon the assurance that my Candidature will meet with a very hearty support on the part of the Electors generally.
