A Sensible Lecture Which Girls Would Do
Well to Heed.
Not many of the girls who read this, we venture to say, ever thought of doing so silly a thing as to dye or bleach their hair because " fashion "so dioiated. The honest country girls are, for the most part, above such petty deceptions, bo it is hardly worth while to warn you of the always injurious effect of Bueh practises and their utter folly, so far as any beautifying effect is conoerned. We are all born with the hair best suited to our complexions. If we change its color we throw the whole effect into discord and give the face a coarse, unnatural expression. In advising you never to use any false means for trying to beauiify your hair, be.Bure ws don't mean not to make all you can of it legitimately. Its mission ia one of beauty. Study your face and find out what methods of hair-dressing beßt become it, and then do not let any false ideas of fashion make yon ohange to an unbecoming way. No woman of real " style " but follows this rule. The unfashionable ones are rrost often those who are continually adopting gome "fad," whether it becomes them or not. Almost any woman, even a pretty one, can make herself look plain' by twisting her hair into a hard knot at the back of her head and drawing it tightly baok from the face and ears, while the ordinary girl who depends for her charm more on a good oomplexion or pretty eyes than on regular features, oan make a perfect fright of herself by doing this. Use the same thought and skill on your hair whiob you do on other matters of dreas and you will be well paid in good looks. Above all things do not brush and plaster your hair tightly away from the forehead, and bo lose all its softening, beautifying effeot. If any of yon do not credit oar advice ask your brothers. Yon will be surprised to find what decided opinions they have on the subject.
