OHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The following is the Corn Exchange report for week ending Friday, July 17th : — European reports on the wheat market, " if to be relied on," should tend, if not to enhance values, to at any rate maintain a firmer tone. The Russian crop is evidently a partial failure, and it is anticipated that that country will have to import considerably for internal consumption. India also seems likely to feel the pinch of poverty in one of her large provinces, which will doubtless tax to the full the producing power of that section of the grain-growing world. There should, therefore, be some inducement for farmers to go in for spring sowing, and there appears some prospect of success in doing so now that welcome rains seem to have set in. In all other cereals there is nothing of note to chronicle. Quotations as follow : — Wheat: Tuscan, 4s 3d, pearl, 4s 2d; Hunter's, 4s Id. Oats : Prime milling, Is lOd ; short, heavy feed, Is 9d ; long and inferior, Is 6d to Is 7£d. Barley s Best malting, 3s ; feed, 2s. The above prices are f.o.b. at Port Lyttelton.
