SUGAB IN SOUB APPLES. What ara called sour apples are really sweet, though iheir tartnesa hides the fl^oebarine properties they contain. Seme of the richest Bour apples, as the Busaet, auke very strong vinegar, whioh they could net do if they did not oontain a good deal of sweetness. POUIiXBY FOB FARMERS' TABLES. Poultry is everywhere the best meat for summer eating, and especially so for farmers who cannot get fresh meat of other kinds. Old hens paat the age of profit will usually be found better eating than half-grown ohiokens, unless the latter are of the breed for broilers. SORGHU3I SEED. The seed of sorghum makes good feed for ohickens in winter. In some plaoes where it is grown largely, it is preferred for this use to corn. Ripening the seed sufficiently to save it rather increases the product of sweet, thus making & crop of seed and another of sweetness from the same growth. PUNPKINS IN CORN. A wot, early Bfaion is a great year for pumpkins. The trouble is that they grow generally tor rampantly, not only crowding the corn, bat preventing the necessary cultivation. Hence, if one crop is good, the other i 3 generally poor. P<jrhap3 the batter way is to grow the crop by itself. UXGSED FENCES. It is better to loss a little pasture, sometimes, than to make and keep in position a lot of permanent fences rarely ever need. Ia rnosi oases i 6 would ie better, probably, not fco pasture until 80 late in the season that animals would not hurt other growing crops in the same field. Temporary fences are .sometimes useful. IHINNING OF BEJ;tS. Unlike almost all other kinds of roots, the work of thinning them out is in part paid by (be use young beets can ba put to. Even when very Bmall they make ercellent greens. and improve' as the beet roots grow larger. No kind of roots should orowd eaoh other, and beets least of- any. As their need i$ often doable when sown, two. plants will oome bo closely together that unless sejsMAtAil noithAr wilj be worth anvthine.
