" Argus " supplies us with the following tips for to-morrow's races :— Maiden Plate : Old Judge, 1; Cora, or Billy, 2. Publican's Handicap : Mon Loup, 1 ; Assassin, 2. District Handicap : Patrick, 1 ; Louis Philippe, 2. Three-mile Trot: Rose, 1; Ruby or Jane, 2. Novel Race : Shulagra or Sweetbriar. Lawrence Handicap : Forget-me-not, 1 ; Moss Rose or Mon Loup, 2. " Mazeppa's " tips for several of the events which take place at the Tuapeka County Jockey CluVs meeting to-day and to-morrow are as follow :- Publican's Handicap, Crossbow ; District Handicap, Archie ; Three-mile Trot, Bella or Pirate ; Novel Handicap, Cymaro; Lawrence Handicap, Forget-me-not, with Moss Rose and Trapper next best ; Hurdle Race, Civis ; Stewards' Purse, Taniwha (or in her absence Crossbow). ■ The weights for the Newmarket Handicap, which takes place in connection with the Victorian Racing Club's autumn meeting, have "been declared. Cranbrook tops the list with 10.3, Mentor coming next with 9.12, Australian Peer 9.9, and Malua 9.7. Carbine's weight is 8.12, Pakeha's 8.10, Waikawai's 8.9, and Tranter's and Enfilade's Bst 81b. The nominations for the event numbered 83. The interprovincial cricket match, Otago v. Canterbury, which was finished on Saturday, resulted in a most decisive win for Canterbury, who made 373 runs in their first innings. The Otago men In their first innings only succeeded in getting 47 runs, but were a little more successful in their second, scoring 280 runs. Canterbury thus won by an innings and 126 runs. Joe Scott completed a week's exhibition at Christchurch on Saturday night, walking 50 miles in 7h 41 2-smin, or within 3min of his record at Aberdeen. Walking alone for the first three hours" in the heat of the day destroyed his chance of breaking the record, but in the last two hours he made some magnificent spurts. At the Canterbury Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday, the 19th inst., Fidget made the best New- Zealand time on record in the Three Mile Trot by covering the distance in Bmin, 9|sec. The Native football team defeated Somerset on Saturday by four goals and five tries to 000 goal aud one try.
