( From our own Correspondent.) DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT BRISBANE. Dunedin, September 18th. A private cablegram reports a destructive fire at Brisbane. The warehouse of Brown and Co. and premises of Parbury, Lamb, Raff, and others are destroyed. The insurance on Brown and Co.'s pre« mises is £98,000. The following New Zealand offices are interested :— National, Standard, New Zealand, Colonial, South British, and Equitable. RECOVERY OF A BODY. A body recovered from the wreck of the Colonist at Wellington Heads has been Identified aa that of St. Lear Potter, formerly of Otago. THE SEAOLIFF ASYLUM. The Hon. T. Hislop reaches Dunedin to-night. His visit is in connection with the Seacliff Asylum. THE ENGLISH FOOTBALLERS. The matoh between the English footballers and South Island takes place here 'on Wednesday next. Unfortunately, Gibson, one of the best Otago forwards, is unable to play in either Saturday's or Wednesday's match. SHEEP INSPECTORS. The changes in the Sheep Department recommended by the Stock Committee take effect from December 1. In future there will only be six inspectors, each responsible for his own district. The chief inspectorship will be abolished. ESCAPE OF A LUNATIC. Auckland, September 18th. Stephen Spaulding, who fired a building at the Remuera Dairy about three years ago, made his escape from the lunatic asylum between two and three o'clock yesterday morning, and is at large. On the Colonial Secretary visiting the asylum a few days ago he saw Spaulding, and asked him what he would do if he were sent away from the asylum. Spaulding said that he would make a public statement as to how things were conducted at the asylum. He has kept a diary of all that has taken place. He escaped by tinsorewing the fastenings of the window and lowering himself by means of sheets.
