THE PROPOSED COUNTY HOSPITAL REFORM.
It is evident that the proposal propounded by the Tuapeka County Council for the re-organisation of the hospital system on the goldfields has not met with that favour which the proposers seemed to anticipate for it. Even the people of Clyde, where the suggested central hospital was to be established, have refused to have anything to do with it . The Vincent County Council considered the proposal at its last meeting, and decided to inform the Tuapeka County Council that its suggestion was "neither practicable nor valuable."
The "Lake County Press" ridicules the scheme, and by way of supplementing its striking absurdity suggests a balloon for the aerial transit of patients to the central institution, the balloons to be fitted with beds, etc., etc; Some of the patients would no doubt "shuffle off" while en route for the central institution, and of course that would be something of a saving. Ballooning would be a great improvement on transit by coach, and when this new system was. once got into proper working order it would be found that— though not quite so satisfactory— it would
be nearly as cheap as the present one, whereby hospitals are located in readily accessible positions for special districts. We would also suggest that the central institution be located in Feel street, Lawrence.
