(Renter's Special.) London, January 23rd. The annual meeting of the Federation League will be held at the Mansion House on February 15th. Mr J. Staples, Lord Mayor of London, will preside. Among the speakers will be Lord Rosebery, Sir R. Fowler (ex-Lord Mayor of London) and the Agent- General for Victoria. Carrie, a. pupil at tlx© Melbourne Grammar school, has been awarded the John Watson scholarship at Brasenose College. The wheat market is unchanged. The wool market is flat, except for crossbreds, good merinos, and sorts suitable for transhipment to America, which are firm. At the sales 46,000 bales have been catalogued, of which 3,500 have been withdrawn. H. M.S. Emerald has been ordered to proceed to America. The Agent-General for Victoria has suggested a scheme relative to New Guinsa. The Agents-General and the Colonial Office are favorable to the scheme, and they are now awaiting the decision of the Colonial Government before making public the details.
Madams Mourez, who was concerned in the Lily Armstrong abduction case, is dead.
