London, July 22nd. News is to hand of a maritime disaster \ off the coast of Cornwall, causing considerable loss of life. The s.s. Cheerful came into collision with the s.s. Blanden, with the result that the former vessel sank immediately, thirteen persons perishing by drowning. Cairo, July 21st. The Egyptain Government are in receipt of intelligence stating that the garrison at Kassala was attacked by the rebel Arab 3 about the middle' of June. A severe engagement took place, lasting two days, at the expiration of which time the assailants were repulsed, with a loss of fully 3,000 killed. ("Argus" Special to Press Association.) At an interview between the AgentsGeneral and Colonel Stanley, the latter intimated that the Government intended to retain clause 31 in the Federation ' Bill, omitting the abrogating proviso^ It is expected that the Earl of Carnarvon'will take an early opportunity of considering the memorials relative to the release of several Irish prisoners. The "Times," commenting on the matter, condemns the action of Lord Salisbury in truckling . to, Mr Parnell. Colonel Ridgeway, who succeeded Sir Peter TJumsden in the Afghan Frontier Commission, has been invested with the order of Knight of the Star of India. A London firm has advanced half a* million pounds to the Munater Bank. An Irish offer of a quarter of a million was not accepted.
