LONDON WOOL SALES. The British: and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company have received the following wool telegrana from Messrs Helmuth, Schwartze and Co., dated London, 9th inst. : — "The sales will close to-morrow. As compared with closing rates of last series, prices j for good greasy are £d to Id lower ; the lower j classes of greasy, Id lower ; fleece and scoured, ' Id .lower ; cross-bred, Id to l£d lower. Total sold, 26(5,000 bales; taken for export, 144,000 bales ; held over, 70,000 ibales. The quantity available (including old stocks) for next series is. estimated at 330,000 bales.?' Some lime ago an order for Snider ball' cartridge was given to an Auckland firm by the Defence Department, and doubts might reasonably enough have been entertained as to the quality of the workmanship compared with the cartridges manufactured at Home ; but the sequel has proved that the confidence of the authorities , has , not been misplaced. The cases are stronger and better fitted than those received from the Imperial authorities, and have the additional recommendation that they can be filled again and agaia.
