LOCAL SALES— STOCK, &o. Mr John Thompsoh reports that there was a fair attendance of 'buyers at his sale at Tuapeka Plat on Thursday afternoon. The following were the ruling prices :— Sheep : Two pens of merinos changed hands at 4s to 6s 6d each ; also, a few fat sheep at 14s each., Cattle: Cows, £4; stores, from £2 7s 6d to £4 10s per head. Horses: Draughts, from £15 15s "to £20; hacks, from £5 to £10; unbroken colts, from £9 to £10. Pigs : Suckers, from 8s to 9s each. During the week, Mr Thompson also reports having sold privately Mr Wm. Muir 's farm at Round Hill to Mr" Adam M'Corkindale, at the rate of 163 per acre. DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET. Wheat. — Notwithstanding Home advices as to advance in values of cargoes to arrive, this market is, if anything, weaker. Still holders of prime qua I; ties are firm, and appear determined to hold, while millers have sufficient supplies of various standards to carry them on in the meanwhile, and therefore are nit compelled to move the market. Quota- > tions are : Prime milling, 3s to 3s 2d ; good, Is 9d to 3s ; damaged and inferior, Is 6d to 2s 3d. Oats. — There has been a steady demand for prime and sound oals during the week, and very substantial clearances have been made for shipment. The market would be still more active were it possible to obtain reasonable freights. Fat Sheep.— 33oo head forward, a supply far in excess of all requirements, with the result of another fall in prices fully equal to 3s per head on rates of last week, and, if anything, under the low values quoted three or four weeks ago. One extra pen heavy crossbred wethers brought 17s 6d ; other?, 9a 3d t6 10s 6d ; good to prime, 13a 6d to 14s 6d. Horses. — Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. 'quote first-class draughts at from £30 to £35; medium, £20 to £27; light-h irness horses (upstanding) and first-class hacks, £18 to £25 ; medium, £10 to £14 ; inferior, £3 to £7. Pigs.— l 99 penned. Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold 29 as follows :— Bacon pigs at from 38b to 525 ; porkers, at from 24 to 30a ; stores, at from 12s to 21s. Wool. — The New Zealand Loan and Mer can tile Agency Company report: — Since our last report we have received the following telegram from our London office, dated June 23rd : " Market unchanged, except medium and inferior greasy,, for which prices were slightly easier.! Fine cross-bred has declined |d to Id per lb. There was fair competition on Belgian and German account, bub on French account (he demand was scarcely so firm. The, American demand for long-staple merino, light in grease, is good. The total quantity catalogued to date is 182,000 balos, and the total quantity withdrawn is 26,000 bales." This market is now pretty well i cleared out, only stragglers and woolshed gathering being offered. Sheepskins. — Monday's sales were well attended, but values were scarcely up to late rates. We learn, however, that privately contracts have been taken for the current month at— for cross-breds up to 4s 4d, and for merinos up to 3a Bd. Hides are without alteration, prices current 'i for month being well sustained— viz., prime heavy, 4£d ; good, 3£d to 4d ; light, 3d to 3£d. Tallow. — Market stagnant. Some inquiries have been made for shipping parcels, but ! without affecting prices. Inferior and mixed is worth 16s to 18s ; medium, 19s to 21s ; good to prime, 22s to 255 ; rough fat, 12s to 14t per cwt.
