A Child's JRBFißCTioira on thb Death of heb Goat.
{Original.) Whe/i I was but &Mth child And thou, too, very youngr, How oft I wandered, often smiled At thy grave face and fun. But ah ! there came a sad, tad day When we were called to part ; And thou no more shall join my play Or bleat thy joy of heart. "My little goat and I." Yes, after all that thou had'st done For Kirk and common weal ; That thou to death shouldst thus succumb Laid prostrate by his steel, Alas ! oh Death ! thy joyo are woes, Thy pleasures bitter teari, Thy songs are sorrows told in prose, Thy hopes the f earful's fears ! "My little goat and I." From Scotia's land, far-famed of old For deeds the brave had done ; Our kirkinen called as I was told A pastor and a son. And lest that he should fail to come I offered him my all, My little goat to grace his home And bide his every call. "My little goat and I." He came, but Scotia bade him back, Yet still my goat remained. Ah ! many a babe her milk will lack - ■ For- wtrch ihe was so famed. Death eased thy pain and thou art not, But wicked men lire on ; Yes, c'en when death invades their lot Their pain is but begun. "My little goat and I." Jv.Jx.Jx.
