Correspondence.

A CORRECTION. {To the Editor.) Sib, — From a local in your issue of the 14th inst., jour readers would infer that I had made mis-statements in my evidence in the R.M. Court on Monday, 9th inst., re objection to Heaps's names being on the electoral roll for Beaumont Biding. You state that you have been shown a receipt for £25 paid to Mr John Thompson as agent for me by Air Heaps toward the purchase of sections 1 and 2, block XXIII., Dunkeld. I "distinctly deny that I ever received any money for said sections on Mr Heaps's account or ever authorised Mr John Thompson to act as my agent for same. I can only say now what 1 said in Court — thit I never had any arrangement with Mr Heaps to transfer the land to him, nor ever received any money from him for that purpose. I made an agreement with Mr Heaps to transfer the sections in question to his deceased brother's eldest son, but I was never asked in Court what that agreement was, and which agreement I am prepared to fulfil. How Mr Heaps considers it a hardship that his sons wete disfranchised, because he had leased another party's land to them, and of which I hold the title deeds, I fa.il to see. Suppose, for argument's sake, Mr Heaps came and asked me to transfer the land to the boy according to our agreement: I should say, "No ; you have got the land and leased it to your sons for two years." I wonder what Mr Heaps would say then ? Somebody would have done wrong. — I am, &0., W. Cttcohngk Beaumont, June 17th, 1884.
