EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION.

(2*o the Editor.)

Sib, — Now that tha names oE the candidates standing for the vacancy in the Education Board are before the Committees, it would be well to take into consideration the qualifications and fitness of the different men before voting for any of them. I notice that as they are arranged in the advertisement, Mr Elder's name comes first. Of course, they are arranged in alphabetical order, but how significant this seems. Some of the Board members would like to see Mr Elder returned, and no doubt every ruse will be tried to hoodwink Committees, so thai they may vote for him. Mr Elder is a hole-and-corner man, and while a member of the Board, he formed one of a most undesirable clique; and those who have watched that gentleman's actions will scarcely vote for him. Mr Fish, no doubt, in some ways, would make a good member, but he it far too impulsive and quarrelsome. We don't want long speeches at Board meetings so much aa good judgment. I don't know what sort of man M~ Proctor is, but Oamaru should be satisfied wilh Dr Maogregor. There are quite enough Dunedin members on the Board already, so that I think the Committees should support a country man. Mr Fulton is by a loug way the best mau in the field. Those who know him best will have no lack of confidence in him. From the long experience he has had as an R.M., he is accustomed to think for himself, and quite above being one of a clique. The only objection to Mr Fulton is that he is an M.H.R., but this is, perhaps, an advantage; as he will be in a better position at Wellington to look after the interests of the Board , which is as important as attending, to the Board meetings. I hope the School Committees in this district will have the courage to vote for the best man in; the field, and never mind if some of the present members of the Board are not pleased about it. — I am., &0., Anti-Ciiqub.
