PUBLIC MEETING AT TUAPEKA WEST.

THE GRAIN-BAG QUESTION.

A public meeting of farmers to consider the bag question was held in the Tuapeka West schoolhouse on the evening of Wednesday, 19th instant. Mr Bulfin, who was voted to the chair, briefly introduced the business of the meeting. It was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Osborne that Mr Bulfin be appointed a delegate to represent the Tuapeka West district, re grain bag and other questions of interest to the farming community, which would come up for discussion at the conference to be held in Dunedin on the 22nd inst. By way of a suggestion, the delegate was urged to strongly support any movement having for its object the opening up of a better grain market than that at present available; and, further, that anyresolution calling on producers to withhold their grain from sale receive his support. — A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the meeting.

THE VALLEY ROAD.

At the close of the above, another meeting (Mr Bulfin presiding) was held with the object of getting the road from Faulkner's valley to Mr Fraser's lower gate put in repair as soon as possible. It was stated that the road was at present in a most deplorable condition, and would, in the course of a few months, become impassable for heavy traffic, so that farmers would be unable to get their grain to market this season unless repairs were effected forthwith. After some discussion, it was resolved that three delegates— viz., Messrs Mullins, Osborne, and M'Gillivray wait on the County Council at its next meeting in regard to this road, and that a petition be sent round for signature by those interested.

farmers' club.

The desirability of forming a Farmers' Club in the district was next brought under consideration, and was strongly advocated by Mr Mullins and others. A resolution was passed that a Club be formed ; and Mr Geo. Adams, who was appointed Secretary pro tern, was requested to take the necessary steps toward the establishment of the Club.

A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings of the evening. [The above arrived too late for publication in our last Satuaday's issue.]
