(From our own Correspondent.) Dunedin, July 10th. At the Supreme Court to-day, Loutb, of Tapanui, was found guilty of embezzlement. Mr Denniston withdrew the legal point he raised on the first charge. Prisoner will be sentenced to-morrow. At-a meeting of merchants and importers to-day, it was decided to take action: against Government for the value of the goods destroyed at the goods-shed fire. Official denial is given by to-day's " New Zealand Times " to the rumours of impending changes in the Cabinet. Mr Bryce will not after all, it is said, go Home. The excitement about the Manor Place tragedy has now entirely died away. People look with some feeling of satisfaction on the fact that Stephen - Bon met his death along with bis wife. All the harassing sensationalism of a long trial, which could only have had one result, has been avoided. At the Police Court to-day, two men working in a mill at the Water of Leith were charged with spearing trout. They swore positively they had. not done so, but Mr Deans (Manager of the Acclimatisation Society) and Banger Burt swore as positively that they had seen them in the act, and tbeLproduced the trout. The Magisjrtrate said his experience of Banger - Burt, in previous cases was that he was a credible witness, and he fined defendants 50s each with costs.
