PROGRESS OF COUNTY WORKS.
The Engineer's statement of expenditure on roads and works in the Tuapeka County, for the month ending 30th April, showed a total of £1543. That amount was distributed as follows : — Upper Riding, £258 17s sd ; Lower Ridings, £363 7s 9d ; land fund (main road), £920 14s lOd.
From the monthly report submitted by the Engineer on the progress of works, we glean the following particulars :—: — Surfacing and repairs, <\>unty roads — | March expenditure, £133 8s 9d ; Lawrence to Waipori, via Bun«town, voted £360, iv progress. Tubman's to Elder's, vote, £320, expended £194 18s 9d. Elder's to Heriot Hundred, vote, £220; expended, £155 5s Bd. Wall's to Bartlett's, vote £650; expended, £1015 7s lOd. Road up Muuros Gully, vote, £200; expended, £171 10s 3d. Faulkner's Valley, vote £300; no progress. Road through Tapanui Commonage, vote £300 : £110 6s ; work stopped. Lower section Clarks Flat road, vote £345 ; expended, £156. Kelso railway station, vote £250 ; expended, £126 2s 6d. Waipori to Road Board boundary, vote £300 ; in progress. Big Hill, Lawrence to Beaumont, vote £800 ; expended, £503 2s. Road between Stadden's and Roxburgh, vote £621 ; expended, £371 12s Bd. Swift Creek to Kelso railway station, vote £320, expended, £996 8s; work stopped. Cullen's end of Summer's contract, vote £245 ; expended, £301 14s ; completed. The road leading to Cargill and Anderson's punt : no progress. Fitzgerald's to Faulkner's Valley, vote £300; no progress. Pomahaka River encroachment at Kelso, vote £90 ; no progress. Gravelling road Steel's paddock to Ettrick, vote £400 ; expended £76 15s. Road opposite Ettrick Domain, vote £70 ;no progress. Gravelling mad up Gibriels Gully, vote £168 ; expended, £98 4s. Ford over Tuapeka stream at Dalhousie, vote £20 ; no progress. Gravelling road Wall's corner to creek, vote £92 ; expended, £02 4s. Road below Labea', Tuapeka Flat, vote £100 ; expended, £18 193 lOd. Road opposite Hunt's, vote £60 ;no progress. Lawrence to Wetherstones, near railway crossing, vote £70 ; in progress. Bridle track to Horae Shoe Bend, vote £100 j no progress. Road boundary of Roxburgh township, vote £50 ;in progress. M'Lelland's corner to block x., Benger, vote £400; no progress. Stadden'a to M'Gregor's, vote £330 ; tenders called. Millers Flat, gravelling, vote £50; expended, £33 Is 9d. Road-end ot Lythgoe's contract, vote £200 ; no progress. Repairing County bridged, expended in March, £65 2s 7d. Road to Scrubby Flat settlement, expended in March, £40 153 sd. Road between D. Herbert's and Swift Creek ; no progress.
