CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sib,— ln reply to Mr Bennet's letter, I must say I would be very sorry indeed to impute any motives to embitter the feelings of anyone, much less a person who holds a responsible position. The words I made use of in my former letter were said in the presence of others as well as myself, and came from a person closely connected with the Council ; and, relying on his authority, I made use of those words, however enigmatical they may appear. I am very glad to hear Mr Bennet giving a flat denial to the accusation, so that other hearers may judge for themselves. — With regard to the remarks in your local re axe grinding, it is well-known to the miners that there are persons sitting at the Council board who have axes to grind, and very blunt ones too, and it is the intention of the miners to resist the free use of their grinding stone.— -I am, &c, Mines. Blue Spur, 21st June, 1880,
