The report recommends the i Council to allow its officers to appear and give ' evidence in any future action regarding the case, or the Council ilsc'f to institute proceedings tigainst Eir.ross. A long debate ensued, which was continued till the adjournment. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wellington, December Blh. The House mot at 7.30. The Premier, in reply to Mr Gisborne, saiJ it was not advisable to lay tbe telegram re the loan on the table at present. Its purport was the same as published. The Land Tax and Customs Duties Amendment Bills were read a first time. The Revision of Statutes Bill was read a second time. December 9th. In the House to day, in reply to questions Government said they weiv advised that they were not responsible for fires caused by spark 3 from locomotives ; al3O that Government would not undertake to pay the present r.it.'S of subsidies to local bodies for the quarter ending June 1880 ; also that Government would afford every facility to the deputation of Lincolnshire farmers about to arrive. Government intend to prorogue Parliarrent on Tuesday, and would push on the Customs Duties Bill, the Tob.icco Manufacturers Bill, the Hevision of Statutes Bill, tho Pripeity Assessment Bill, ths Land iTmx Colljelion Bill, the Electoral Acts Repeal Bill, and tho Buildings Societies Act Amendment Bill. The fate of other Bills depends on the time availa'ilo. , In reply to a question from Mr Ireland, Government said they would seek authority from the House to make arrangements for completion of Ttipanui railway, also to obtain report regarding the erection of a Courthouse at Waikaia.
