mHE GREATEST WONDER of the AGE JL is now an established fact, that SLESINGER'S RHEUMATIC BALSAM is the only legitimate article for a speedy and effectual cure for pain of any kind of a muscular or nervous affection, be it acute or chronic, recent or of long standing ; be it a sprain, rheumatics, gout, lumbago, or pain in shoulder, legs, chest, back, loins, nip, foot, &c, tee. Not many weeks ago, when three different doctors treated a person in Dunedin — one using subcutaneous injections repeatedly, and trying all they could without any benefit — the said person (a gentleman well known in Dunedin) obtained a bottle of Slesiager's Rheumatic Balsam, and got perfectly cured in less than 24 hours, This is another to the many wonders this blessed discovery of Slesingee's Rheumatic Balsam has effected, and costs the party but 7s 6d against scores of pounds to the doctors and months in pain. What a contrast ! Wetherstones, 17th Sept., 1877. Mr. Jamis J. Hahbis Dear Sib.— A few days ago, I purchased a bottle of Slesinger's Rheumatic Balsam from you, having heard a great deal about its wonderful curative virtues ; and as I have been a victim to acute rheumatism for several years, I determined to put to the test its efficacy. I have much pleasure in adding that a Single Bottle has almost effected a complete cure ; and in writing you now, I can assure you that I have the greatest faith in the Balsam for which you are Agent. — I am, &c, Fbederick Neilmak. SLESINGER'S HORSE MEDICINE may be had wholesale of all the leading houses in Dunedin, and retail of all chemists and medicine vendors in New Zealand, or of the proprietor, S. Slesinger, V.S., Hopestreet, Dunedin. SLESINGER'S COUGH SYRUP, For Infants or Adults, suffering from sore throat, colds, coughs, pain in the chest, bronchitis, and lung affections, 2s 6d per bottle. The above-mentioned Medicines are sold either Wholesale or Retail, by James J. Harris, Storekeeper, Lawrence. 'Is there no hope ? the sick man said; The silent doctor shook his head." SMITH (The only legally-qualified medical nu advertising) CO HS U U S On all affections of the Nervous System (no matter from what cause arising). On all broken-down constitutions. On diseases arising from early indiscretions On Gout. On Rheumatism. In these colonies, those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The soul idea would be the chances we possess of remedying the ills we already have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his viceß will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty, we owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and < points out to us, not to wait till the ravage* ' break out in our constitutions. Before negociating with a merchant,, be fore engaging with a confidential clerk ; before employing a barrister, a careful man makes enquiries ds to their stsnding, their length of occupancy or residence ; and, in the case ox a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and a.< to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon Strange to say, however, in the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits, these necessary precautions and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he oonsults the nearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, liea in quite an opposite direction. It is astonishing that so many are driven mad, ar& mined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope and money f Hare I not for years pointed out to them that I, Dr. L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified medical man advertising in the colonies ? Have I not also prosecuted at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are aelJing,--such as phosphodyne, Essence of Life, &c.— and had them analysed and found them to consist of " Burnt Sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates I have pboved to be all forgeries. It is for this reason thai I step out of the ethics and advertise, to give those who require the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one moreover, who has made this his especial study Dr. L.
