Thirteen horses faced the starter for this race, and a great deal of interest was manifested in the result. Sinking Fund showed prominently in front at the fall of the flag, and continued to occupy that position nearly the whole way. Mata, however, came through his horses during the last half mile, and a splendid race home ensued. The judge was unable to separate them, and declared it a dead heat. Time— 3min 57£secs. In the run off, Mata, after a well-contested race, won by a neck. Ladies' Porse, of 60 soys. Entrance, 3 soys. One mile and a distance. Mr Mallock's Foul Play, by Traducer out of Fancy, 4 yrs, list (Turnbull) 1 Mr S. Horsfall's Ratcatcher, 4 yrs, list (J. Lunn) 2 Publicans' Handicap, of 100 soys, with a sweepstake of 2 soys each. Prince's Eversley, aged, lOst 101 b(A Lyford) 2 Mr H. Gourlay's Kildare, aged, 9st 41b (Cotton) 3 Novel Race, a handicap of 80 soys. One mile and a-quarter. Mr W. Swanson's Numa, aged, 7st 101b — By Master Rowe (J. Ward) 1 Mr J. Thompson's Rosemary, 5 yrs, carried 7st3lb (G. Smith) 2 Mr J. Andrew's Exile, aged, Bsc (Allan) 3 Jack-the-FJat, Larrikin, and Tommy also ran. Betting — 3 to 2 against Numa ;2to 1 against Rosemary ; 4 to 1 against any other. Jack-the-Flat and Rosemary cut out the running at a rare pace with Numa in close attendance. Passing the stand, however, the chestnut had fallen back third, Nuraa rushing to the front and going two lengths ahead of Rosemary. The mare was full of running and kept near hand the favorite, but the rest tailed off to an astonishing extent ; nothing being in the race but the two leaders. At the straight Numa had a lead of three clear lengths, and this advantage he increased at every stride, winning hands down by fifty yards. Rosemary was second, and Exile a bad third. — Time : 2min 21secs. The Railway Plate, of 100 soys, the gift of David Proudf oot, Esq. Three-quarters of a mile. Weight for age. MrNeilson's Fish-hook, aged, 9st lib 1 Mr Ray's Maritana, aged, 9st lib 2 Mr Walter's Slanderer, two years, sst 131 b 3 Foul Play, Adamant, and Marie Antoinette also ran. [Through an oversight on the part of tho Press Association agent at Dunedin, we regret that we are unable to give the results of two of the principal races run yesterday— viz., the Jockey Club Handicap and the Dunedin Leger.]
