CHANGES IN COLONIAL GOVERNORS.

The recent shuffle in Colonial governors is likely to give satisfaction, Sir George Bowen has only a year or two more to complete lm service for pension, aud he can do that as well at Mauritius as elsewhere. Lord Normanby, who succeeds him at Melbourne, will fiod his work cut out for him, but those who know Lord Normanby best will readily admit that he possesses many of the most solid qualities of an administrator, and although slow in his mental processes his judgment is sound, and under an exterior of good-nature he conceals a firm will. There is an unpretentious homeliness about himself and his wife which will probably win them much popularity. It is a promotion for Sir Hercules Robinson to 1 go to New Zealaud, but he will be sorry to leave Sydney ? A man of Sir Hercules' personal vigour will perhaps do more for New Zealand than Lord Normanby. It is not yet announced how the vacancies thus made will be filled. Sir Sanford Ereeling deserves a good governorship, and if he has so far recovered his health which his last stay at the Grold Coast so seriously shattered, his claims may be recognised by Sir Michael HicksBeach. But one strongly marked quality in our Colonial Secretary is his reticence. He keeps his own counsel (so say his coadjutors) more closely than any who have preceded him in office. But little fault, however, can be found with bis nominations, aud be is working honestly through the list Lord Cameron left him before proceeding to appoint any friends of his own. — " Home News."
