Henbt Dbiveb (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.) reports for week ending March 6Lh :— ! Fat Cattle — The limited supply caused the | trade to bid- with more spirit, a,nd better I prices were obtained than for some weeks past. Best bullocks brought from £10 10s to £13 10s 5 do cows, £6 10s to £10 10s— or prices equal to about 27s 6d per 1001 b for prime quality. We sold a draft at tha yards, on account of George Wilson, Esq., at above rates, and have placed 100 head outside for forward delivery. Store Cattle continue in fair demand for well-conditioned quiet bullocks and cows — £5 to £6 10b for bullocks, and £3 10s to £4 10s for cows. We have sold 200 head mixed ages and sexes at £3 10s. Store Sheep. — We have very large orders for almost every description of sheep, but find it impossible to fill them on account of the few sheep offering. The following prices can readily be obtained, viz. : — Merino wethers, 2, 4, and 6 tooth, 5s 6d to 6s j do fult-mouthed, 3s to 4s j ewes, 2, 4, and 6 tooth, 6s 6d to 7s ; do full-mouthed, 3s to 4s j cross-breds, 4 and 6-tooth, 7* to 7s 6d ; do, 2 tooth, 6s to 6s 6d ; do lambs, 5s to 5s 6d. Sheepskins.--We had a small supply of inferior quality, which sold irregularly, and in favor of buyers — pelts, Is to Is 8d j lambs, Is 4d to 2s Bd. Hides are steady ; prices unaltered. Good conditioned lots bring 4d per lb. Tallow keeps in good demand. We sold — ordinary, 25s to 27s 6d j fair medium, 29b 6d per cwt. Grain.— -Wheat is slowly coming to hand Millers are offering 4s 6d for good milling, for immediate delivery. Oats are in good demand, both for local consumption and shipping. Old sells at 3s 5d to 3a 6d ; new, 3s to 3s 3d. Barley, none offering.
Messrs Weight, Sxephenson, and Co. report for the week ending 6th March, as follows : — Fat Cattle. — The number brought forward was insufficient for the requirements of the trade. Fifty-nine head were yarded, of medium to good quality, and prices ruled considerably higher than for the last few weeks. Bullocks brought from £8 10s to £13 2s 6d j cows from £7 5s to £9 17s 6d— prices equal to 27s 6d per 1001 b for medium, and 30s for prime. Fat Sheep. — The market was fully supplied. 2190 were penned, and were all taken by the trade, prices obtained being quite up to last week's quotations. We sold 1100, chiefly cross-breds, at from 7s 6d to 11s 9d per head. We quote prime muttou, at 2d per lb. Store Sheep. — We have numerous enquiries for all classes, especially for young merinos, and could place a large number at satisfactory rates. We quote cross-breds, 4 and 6 tooth, 7s 6d j do, 2-tooth, 6s 6d ; do, lambs, 6s ; meriuo wethers, 2, 4, and 6 tooth, 6s j do, full-mouth, 4s ; do, ewes, 2, 4, and 6 tooth, 7s to 7s 6d ; do, full-mouth, 3s to 4s. At the above quotations we have sold during the week 6000 merinos and 2500 cross-breds. H"orses.— On Friday, Ist instant, we sold at Cobb and Go»'s, yards, Stafford-street, on account of George Dodson, Esq., a draught of yearling colts and fillies, by the imported thoroughbred entire horse, Cassivellaunus, out of well-known mares, at prices ranging from 15 to 58 guineas each. Very few draught horses came forward to our sale on Monday, but of other classes a fair proportion changed hands. We quote first-class draughts at from £50 to £60 ; medium, £35 to £40 ; light, £25 to £30 ; gooi hacks and light harness horses, £25 to £30; medium, £12 to £20 ; light and inferior, £3 to £10. Wool. — The following cablegram has been received, under date London, February 26th : — "The London Colonial wool sales opened this afternoon. The total number of bales available for the series is 260,000, including 49,000 from the Cape. Of this quantity 12,000 bales have been despatched to Yorkshire and the Continent. The first day's catalogue, which was fairly representative of the of the various Colonies comprised 4000 bales. The attendance of both Home and foreign buyers was exceptionally large, and the opening competition was extremely vigorous. Prices range about the same as last series, but medium greasy wool is a shade lower." At our weekly sale on Monday we disposed of several sir all parcels at prices about equal to late rates.
Maclean Bkothehs report for week ending 6th March, as follows : — Fat Cattle. — The market to-day was barely supplied. Sixty-four head of good quality were yarded, and for these there was brisk competition at an advance of 5s per 1001 bon rates lately ruling. Best bullocks brought £11 to £13 ss ; medium do, £8 to £9 ; cows, from £6 to £8 15s— equal to 30s per 1001 b for prime quality, and 25s for medium. At above quotations we sold 30 head. Fat Calves. — Eight of inferior quality were penned, and sold at from 7s to 15s each. Fut Sheep.— 2,ooo of fair quality were penned, and sold at about last week's rates. Best cross-breds — heavy weight — brought from 10s 6d to 12s ; medium, 7s 6d to 9s ; merinos brought from 6s to 7s 9d. We sold, on account of Charles Turnbull, Esq.. 400 cross-breds at 9s. Fat Lambs. — A moderate supply of medium quality' came forward— viz., 416, for which there was fair competition, but on account of the quality, prices were not high. We sold, on account of Alex. Brown, Esq., 120 at 6s. Grain. — The deliveries of new wheat, thus far are very slight, and no transactions of any moment have been concluded, hence we have no basis for quotations. The demand does not appear to be active. For oats there is a fair demand at 3s 4i to 3s 5d for old feed, and 3s 6d for milling samples. Best new malting may bo quoted at same figure, but feed is worth only 3s 2d to 3s 3d. Feeding barley is saleable at 3s to 3s 3d ; milling, 3s 6d ; malting may be quoted at up to 4s 6d.
