ALEXANDRA.

The annual examination of the Alexandra School took place on the 18th inst ; there was a numerous attendance of parents and others interested in the welfare of the school, and a general feeling of satisfaction was expressed at the progress made by the scholars. The class .prizes were awarded to the pupils who obtained the highest number of marks during the session ; and additional prizes - were awarded to pupils for proficiency in special branches. The attendance at the school has been very satisfactory, the average amounting to 71.5 being an increase of 10 over last year's average, a fact which is the more noteworthy as the population of the district has undergone a considerable decrease siuce the last examination. The prizes were awarded as, follows : — , Bth class.— Wiliam Telford, Ist ; John Thomson, 2nd ; Edward Ryan, 3rd. 7th class.— Jessie Telford, Ist ; Margaret Pinlay, 2nd ; Mary Buckley, 3rd. 6th class— First division : Annie Robertson, Ist ; Jessie Oliver, 2nd ; Lewis Cameron, 3rd. Second division : Mary Ann Thomson, Ist -Isabella Telford, 2nd; Elizabeth Mackersy, 3rd. sth class— First division ; ' Catherine Mackersy, Ist; David Thomson, 2nd; Annie M'Keeinan, 3rd. Second division : Catherine Robertson, Ist ; Julia Buckley, 2nd ; Augusta Terry, 3rd. 4th class,— Mary Paget, Ist ; Robert Fmlay, 2nd ; Samuel Lett, 3rd. 3rd class — Johanna Mackersy, Ist; George Rivers, 2nd ; Samuel Cameron, 3rd. 2nd class.— Susannah Morris, Ist ; James M'Donald, 2nd ; Margaret Watson, 3rd. Prizes were also awarded to the following pupils for proficiency in special branches —Girls: Annie Paget, Sarah Chappie, Esther Weaver, Jessie M'lntosh, Mary Robertson, Margaret Telford, Grace Charnock, Jessie Morris, Ellen Thomson, Mary Buckley, Jessie Telford and Sarah Ballantyne. Boys: Alex Robertson, Timothy Buckley, John Robertson, William Chappie, James Paget, John M'llroy, Richard Blackwell, William Finlay, James Beattie, Robt.. Ballantyne, Robt M'lntosh, Alex. Thomson, John Paget, John Brennan, Edward Terry, and William Theyers.
