Sir John O'Shannassy has resigned his seat in the Council, and stands for Kilmore.
The debating power in the Assembly will be much increased.
The revenue of the Colony for the quarter (ending March is £1,097,551, showing an increase on the quarter of £119,131, and on the year of £217.472.
The Eastern Cable Company has submitted a proposition for a reduction of cable charges at £3 15s for ten words, in consideration of £25.000 annual subsidy, reduceable after a certain number of messages. Mr. Todd is negotiating with, the various Governments on this basis.
Drummond the bank manager who was arrested in New Zealand, has been committed for trial.
Mlf. Rochfort, Grousset, and Jourde were passengers to England via California.
The Cyphrcnes sailed from Sydney on Satturday, and will tranship into the Mikado at KanJavu, and take the mail to New Zealand.
Several suicides and fatal accidents are reported. The probate duty on W. J. T. Clarke' b estate paid to Government was £37,555.
