MR. HOLLWAY AND THE ROXBURGH COMMITTEE.

(To the Editor.} Bib,— The extract from the •' New Zealand Herald," " Mr. Holloway and the Roxburgh Committee," published in your issue <$f the Bth inst., induces me to address you once j more on the above subject. ' I quite agree with your contemporary that it is most desirable that Mr. Holloway on his tour through New Zealand may have all possible opportunity to see things as they really are, and it was the object of the Roxburgh Committee to achieve this ; not allowing him to look at things through the kaleidoscope presented to him by the Governmeats of the various provinces, who in their favorite doctrines of assisted immigration would necessarily be most anxious to represent the country in the beat colors possible. The Roxbnrgh Committee succeeded so well in their object that they substantiated the facts they brought forward by oracular as well as occul&r proofs. So complete was their success that Mr. Holloway could not help stating that he entirely coincided, although during the visit at Roxburgh he was all the time most closely shepherded by a Government official. Far from wishing " to impose upon Mr. Holloway," as you contemporary has it, the Roxburgh Committee acted in a most manly and honorable way to prevent him being led astray by any rose colored representations. Had some of . the townships of Otago followed the example .' of the Roxburgh people, it would have been wejl for the province. The way, however, in ■which the Press appearajto have taken up this matter is not to be wondered at so much, when we consider that a member of the Government of Otago found no other weapon but abuse, to meet the incontestable arguments of these gentlemen. — I am, &c., Akti-Sham.
