We are informed that tlie Wesleyan Church Committee have disposed of their old building in Colonsay-street. The purchaser is Mr. Humphrey. The amount realised is stated to, be £100. As an evidence of the mildness of the climate in Tuapeka this season, we may mention that the strawberry plants in Dr. Halley's garden are yielding a second crop, and the apple trees are again in full blossom . AT present Roxburgh i 3 without either tailor or watchmaker— the former having gone to the Dunstan Hospital, and the latter having left for Dunedin, where we hope he will earn the success he so well merits. Great excitement was created at Roxburgh on Sunday 011 receiving the telegram conveying the news of the capsize of Cobb and Co.'s coach, and deep sympathy was expressed by all on behalf of the unfortunate sufferers. A Goon Tj'MPLARS' Lodge is about to be established in Arrowtown. A fatal accident occurred at Waitahuna on Thursday morning la-*t to a man named Jacob Lawrenson. He had been working for wages inThompson and party's claim, audhad only been there two days when quite unexpectedly a fall of earth came away, completely covering tlie unfortunate man. His mate, being a younger man, escaped by running for his life, When Lawrenson was extricated by plenty willing hands, it was found that he was quite dead, his neck and legs being bi^ken, and one of his ears completely cut off. A Roxburgh correspondent informs vis that Mr. Rigney, of Horseshoe lienil is about to present a petition to tho Provincial Council ou its assembling, for an inquiry, into the conduct of Warden Simpson in the ciWe of Woodhouse v. Stevenson and paity, whose ruling in that case has c.iused considerable uneasiness amongst the miners. If his ruling is correct, says our cortespondent, any individual may break up a party, and cause seiious injury. All hands went immediately to work, and succeeded in getting him out ; but no sooner had they done so, than another fall came down at the same place. The workman managed to keep clear. We are informed that uo bones are broken, although the m.tn is greatly bruised. THE criminal sittings of the Supreme Court of Duneiliu commenced on Wednesday. The following is the result of tlie long catalogue of crime so far as it has been gone thiough : — Joseph Lundumn. charged with larceny at ClOlllwell, and John Blair, charged with larceny as a Government servant at Diinpilin, bofh pleaded guilty, anil were sentenced to 18 and 12 months, respectively, Henry Keen, indicted for stealing a cheque nt O^mau, was sentenced to two years> imprisonment, with hard labor ; George Crossby charged with stealing, at Alexandra, the sum of 75., was ordeied five years' penal servitude. Twenty-four previous convictions were recorded against. Jane Glass, accused of stealing a purse containing £75 from Edwin Belcher, was acquitted : On Say, convicted of obtaining goods form Messrs. Herbert, Haynes, and Co. by means of false representations, was sentenced to four years' penal servitude ; Richard Todd, accused of stealing gold at Tinkers, was ordered to be incarcerated for twelve calendar months. True Dills were found against ail the prisoners except Joseph Wiliiaiu Jones ; William Hoary Bruce, found guilty of obtaining money by means of a valueless cheque, was sentenced so twelve months' imprisonment, with hard labor. He pleaded guilty to a second charge of obtaining goods by false pivtences, and fox this offence was sentenced to six months'imprisoninent, with hard labor. H. E. A. O.itnpliell. charged with committing wilful ai\& corrupt perjury at Outram, was found " Not Guilty." The actual assay of gold sent by the miners, through the Government, to the branch of the Koyal Mint at Melbourne is. according to the " Daily Times " : Decimal 9455, Serpentine ; 9645. Lawrence ; and 9800, Mount Ida. The respective value of each sample, calculated at the rate of £3 17s. 10M. per standard ounce, is about £4, £4 25., and £4 3s. per ounce. These values are subject to the following deductions—viz., duty, freight, and insurance, loss in melting, coinage, and exchange. Mr. Eichardt reqneits us to contradict the starem' 11 1 made by as in a recent issue, to the effect that Mr, J. Y. Henry had purchased his line of cosiches' running between Queetistown and Clyde. We understand that the Committee for the Roxburgh ploughing match last year, hearing that some dissatisfaction was expressed by cci tain parties with some of the arrangements, have determined not to net again this season. We would therefore remind those interested in the same that the time is drawing ne.ir for a Committee to be formed for the carrying out of a programme. We believe there is some £8 odd at pteseut in the bank for them to start with, The anniversary soireo and ba.ll of the Loyal Blue Spur Lodge M.U.1.0.0.R. was held in the Assembly Rooms Blue Spur last evening. Although the inclement weather prevented a good many people from l>eing present still thg attendance was veiy satisfactory. Tea J was placed on the table at six o'clock. The spread was a good one, and thorough justice was done to it by all present. After the cloth had been removed the usual toasts were proposed and responded to. Several songs, recitations, &c, also added to the evening's enjoyment ; after which the hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept up with great spirit till early dawn.
