ST. PATRICK'S DAY IN TUAPEKA. GRAND EACES & SPOETS ANNUAL BANQUET. GRAND ART UNION. EANCT FAIR. INSTRUMENTAL BAND. ST. PATRICK'S DAY, 1873, will be celebrated by HORSE AND FOOT RACING AND NATIONAL ATHLETIC SPORTS, Oil the, LAWRENCE- RACE COURSE. The horse racing will be under the auspices of the Stewards of the Tuapeka Jockey Club, The other sports will be under the management of a committee of gentlemen. THE BANQUET will take, place in the evening, in the Schoolroom, Colonsay-street. Chair to be taken at eight o'clock sharp. Tickets— Double, 10s. 6d. ; single, 7s. 6d. THE FANCY FAIR will be held on the Race Course. There will be displayed to the public gaze a wonderful assortment of miscellaneous articles, ranging from the useful to t^ c ornamental, and comprising works of fine art, humble implements, horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, and many other articles, too numerous to particularise. The Prizes at the Art Union are exceedingly valuable, comprising harmonium, splendid pictures, fancy work of all kinds, set of silvev.-mounted harness, inlaid 100 tables, walnut what-not, and many other articles. A number of ladies from Dunedin will assist the local beauty in the work of presiding over the Fancy Fair. The inimitable Matthew Hay will act as auctioneer. A Dunedin Band of 22 performers will be stationed on the course, and will perform at intervals during the proceedings, PROGRAMME OF SPORTS. Hack Race — Ist prize, a saddle and bridle ; 2nd prize, a pair of spurs. Mile heats. Handicap 200 Yards Foot-race— lst prize, £2 j 2nd do, £1 Running High Leap — Ist prize, £2 ; 2nd do, 15s 150 Yards Race, fox boys under 12 years of agje — 1 st prize, 10a ; 2nd do, 5s St. Patrick's Handicap of 15 guineas ; 2nd horse, silver-mounted riding whip. Three Standing Jumps — Ist prize, £2,; 2nd do, los Throwiug fleavy, Stone (18 lbs.), in Irish style — Ist prize, £2 ; 2nd do, los Hack Race — Ist prize, bridle and saddle ; 2nd do, pair of spurs. The Celestial Handicap, of 100 yards. — Open to all Chinese. First prize, 40s ; 2nd do, 15s, 200 yards Handicap^ Foot-race, for boys over 12. First prize, 20s ; 2nd do, 10s; 3rd do, ss. Entrance Fee, 5 v cent, on the gross value of the prizes, with the exception of the boys' races, for which there will be no entrance charged. Three entries or no event.
