Election time is near at hand, And ere you give your vote, Let Tuapekians as one band Stand by our men of note ! A clever strategist have we — Alas ! how few do know it ; Oh ! that his merits were made known, And justice done to M 1. A policy he long sought out, And this is his Eureka, He'll change his coat a thousand times To sit for Tuapeka. An Englishman is always apt To mind his P's and Q'a, And all his strength will be enforced To put in Mr. H s. So Caledonians rally round, And mind our rivor Tay, From near its banks we have a man Whose name is Mr. II y. A shepherd once with sling and stone Went forth to meet a foe, He struck the giant on the head, And felled him wi'li the blow.
But Shepherds of more recent date Strange things have brought to pass ; Instead of lighting v.ith a stone, Have substituted hvr.su !
There's J. C. B. the devotee To cockatoos and miners ; This vulgar set he feign would get ' To vie with our refiners.
And when we all our choice have made From this our motley crew, We'll cease to spout, and raise a shout ! With better times in view.
Mines.
