MR. MERVYN'S SPEECH AT THE TEVIOT.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)

Sir, I—ln1 — In a resent address to his constituents, I notice that Mr. Mervyn, after a painful amount of puerile criticism on the effete Government scheme to promote railways and immigration, observed, with reference to the latter branch of the scheme, that he would encourage emigration from various parts of Kngland and Scotland, but from the north of Ireland only ! Sir, I conceive thi3 is a direct insult, to residents from the other portions of Ireland, and Mr, Mervyn may believe that his thus travelling out of his way to wantonly wound the feelings of a class who have, wherever they have located themselves, proved among the most useful, enterprising, and spirited colonists, will not be forgotten afc the ne^t election.

Mr. Mervyn has pretty conclusively shown that a man so destitute of common " savey " as to perpetrate the blunder, and to take credit to himself for so doing, of making the river the boundary line of these electoral districts (equivalent to, say dividing any township by its principal street) is utterly unfitted to represent any constituencv — a conclusion arrived at by those who know him best prior to the last general election. — I am, &c. Rox.
