SMALL SCOW ASHORE.
Torn From Moorings in Auckland Gale. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. June 25. The scow Torea. and a motor launch from the "cable ship Recorder, were torn from their moorings in Waitemata Harbour by a high wind which swept over Auckland to-day, and both craft were washed ashore. They were recovered without having suffered any damage.
The wind, which blew from the west, came at times in squalls of gale force, and was accompanied by frequent heavy showers. Conditions on the harbour were very rough. Many units of Auckland’s fleet of fishing launches were off the coast and out towards Great Barrier Island when the wind sprang up and news was received that some had taken shelter.
It was intended that the Recorder should sail for Norfolk Island to repair the Pacific cable in that locality, biit owing to the rough seas it was not possible tb unshackle the vessel’s mooring cables from the buoys. As a result her sailing was postponed. The rain was accompanied by hail and marked the twenty-first day this month on which rain has fallen.
