AFTER FORTY-SIX YEARS.

Land Bought Back at Big Price. Now that a site for a new Central Library in Wellington has been decided upon and a loan sanctioned for its erection, it is interesting to look back 46 years. In November, 1880. the Reserves Committee submitted a report urging that an effort be made to supplement the money in hand for a public library The report was adopted and it was decided to grant the Wellington Education Board, for “ a mere song,” a portion of the site then under considera tion for the purposes of a school ot design. The City Council, which is now about to re-purchase the land from the Education Board, has to pay the latter body £51.000 for* the land.
