COB AND PONY SOCIETY.

Officers Elected for the Year. There was a good attendance of members of the Canterbury Cob and Pony Society last Aveek, notAvithstanding a very stormy evening. In the unavoidable absence of the president. Mr D. W. Westenra took the chair.

The report stated that the classes at the Metropolitan Show for stallions and mares suitable for breeding saddle ponies had drawn many entries which, by no stretch of imagination, could be described as saddle type. The opinion Avas expressed that the steAvards in attendance should, in everv case, draw the judges’ attention to the conditions of the class so that there should be no misunderstanding in the matter.

Major Hutton introduced the subject of the differentiation betAA’een harness and’ saddle types of ponies and suggested the setting up of tAvo sub-commit*., tees, each of which Avill bring doAvn recommendations dealing Avith their particular class. The order of reference for each committee is as folloAA’s- 1 Compilation of a list of sires; 2—Com- i pilation of a list of judges; 3—The matter of approaching all A. and P. Associations asking them to appoint separate judges for harness and saddle classes; 4—The compilation of a list of good and bad points of the respective classes; s—The collection of information and suggestions calculated to improve animals of both types. On the motion of Major Hutton, it was decided to ask her Excellency Ladv Galway if she would do the society the honour of becoming its patroness. The follOAving officers Avere elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr John Parlane; \’ice-presidents, Messrs T. Gee and D. W. Westenra and Major Hutton; committee, Mesdames Bushell and Westenra and Messrs W. H. Bovle, O. Digby, F. Jarman and D. Neave; secretary, Mr George Maginness.
