Gatherings Held in Town and Country. DANCE AT PREBBLETON. Members of the Prebbleton Rugby Football Club held a dance in the Prebbleton Hall on Saturday evening. Music was provided by Les Kinsman’s band, and Mr A. Johnson was M.C. Novelty dances were won by Miss K. Tod and Mr L. Melhopt and Miss V. Latta and Mr C. Thomas, and the card-room competitions were won by Mesdames A. Thomson and L. Harris, and Messrs P. Dobby and C. Hands. Mr Duncan Warren was the winner of another competition. Ball at HalkettThe spinsters and bachelors of Halkett held their annual ball in the Kirwee Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Hall on Friday evening. The hall, which was decorated with streamers, was filled to capacity. The music was supplied by the Evans Campbell Bend. Extras were played by Misses D. P. Roper, B. Begg, Mrs R. Henderson and Mr L. An enjoyable evening was spent in the Football Hall in Lawson Street by the members of the Sydenham Bowling Club and their friends. Prizes for euchre were won by Mrs J. G. Hawkins, Mrs J. Gemmeli, and Mrs Watson, and Messrs Goodwin, M. Shier and Reeve, and items were given by Misses Howison and Ivy Brown, and Mr Summers. Novelty dances were won by Mr Hill and partner. Miss Boon and Mr King. Councillor J. S. Barnett welcomed the guests, and Mr Frank Bishop was M.C. Mrs Reeve was accompanist and Petei Bryson’s Band played for the dancing. Shirley Saxon Club’s Dance. The Shirley Saxon Club held a successful dance in the Shirley Masonic Hall on Saturday last. About 120 guests spent an enjoyable evening dancing to music supplied by Miss Maisie Ottey's orchestra, and extras played by Mr L. B. Salkeld. Mr E. Palmer was M.C. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr W. R. Olorenshaw and Miss M. Olorenshaw. Miss A. Taylor and Mr N. Suckling were the winners of the lucky-spot dance. Other prize winners were Miss D. Judd and Mr F, K. Davenport. A dainty supper was served by members of the club, assisted by friends. Carnival Dance at Xaiapol. On Saturday evening another successful fortnightly carnival dance was held at the "Gray Raven" hall, Kaiapoi. The Herdman-Fisk orchestra supplied excellent music and the extras were played by Mr H. Ashby and the Christchurch Sunbeam Entertainers’ sound system. Two Monte Carlos were won by Mr M. Rubin and partner and Mr C. Thompson and partner. Mr C. L. Harwood was M.C.
