“WINGS IN THE DARK.”
Myrna Loy and Cary Grant in Powerful Drama. “ Lottery Lover ” will be shown finally on Thursday night at the Majestic Theatre. The supports include a Fred Argyle stage production. Writing of “ Wings in the Dark,” the powerful drama which comes to the Majestic Theatre on Friday, a prominent critic said:—There are thrills in plenty; there are dare-devil acrobatics; there is drama; there is pathos and courage; there is love—but above all there is Myrna Loy. It is Myrna Loy in another new role—that of the airwoman, who uses her passion for flying. first to earn her own income, and then to make money for a famous airman who, about to set out on a flight which would have “ set the Hudson on fire,” is suddenly struck blind. All those who love to hear the eerie wail of the zooming aeroplane; all who know pleasing fear to see a machine doing impossible “stunts” in the air; all who would go to a picture merely because Myrna Loy is acting—they should see “ Wings In the Dark.” In a picture that abounds with gripping, even moving, scenes, it is hard to pick out those which linger longest. Perhaps there is the one in which Cary Grant, the blind airman, discovers that he is blind. One is made to realise the horror of blindness. .. . Then, Myrna Loy. Her part is difficult, if only because it is so varied. At one time she is the dare-devil; at another she is a woman in love, self-sacrificing, winsome, patient, with a man who is helpless. The denouement of the picture comes when Grant, who has invented a device which makes flying safe even for a blind man, breaks into a hangar and steals a plane and goes to the rescue of Myrna Loy, who has undertaken a long-distance flight, and wl.o, on the last lap, is lost in the fog with only a few minutes’ petrol left. . . . It is a picture worth seeing. Box plans at the D.I.C.
