Issue of Blankets and Boots Extended. Advice that the issue of boots and blankets had been extended to relief workers who were registered on May 4, 1935, but were ineligible due to the fact that they had not been in receipt of relief for the specified period was received from the Commissioner* of Uneffiplovment at a meeting of the Rangiora Unemployed Committee held yesterday. The letter stated that the issue could be made as soon as thirteen weeks’ employment had been completed, but not later than September 30; also that single men classified in a higher class because they were supporting widowed mothers would now be eligible for the issue. The Unemployment Board forwarded approval for the granting of assistance to a farmer on his own farm under Scheme 4a. and two applications for similar relief were received and held over to enable further information to be supplied. An application for two additional men for a camp under Scheme 4d was held over pending the receipt of further particulars. Six fresh registrations were received. Authority was given for the j opening of a Post Office Savings Bank account for use in connection with the sale of meat to relief workers. The secretary (Mr H. M. Chappell) reported that during last month 212 were registered locally, and also that he had issued 150 pairs of blankets to date. The Mayor (Mr W. A. Rowse) presided, and other members present were: Messrs S. G. Dailey, H. A. Bennett, C. S. Ayers, C. W. Tyler. J. A. Ivory and G. E. PI. Davis (certifying officer). Temporary Post Office. Officials of the Public Works Department were in Rangiora yesterday arranging the lay-out for the temporary Post Office w’hich will be situated in the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s hall at the corner of Pligh and Ivory Streets. The contract for fitting up the building has been let to Mr C. S. Lunev, of Christchurch, who is expected to start on the work this morning. It is anticipated that the temporary premises will be open for use on July 8. Tenders for the new Post Office close wih the Tenders Board in Wellington to-day.
