The eastern States of Australia are experiencing extremely cold weather. Wide areas are covered with snow and in many parts of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria temperatures dropped to the lowest for years. Caught in a snowstorm near Taralga. an aeroplane crashed into a tree and was wrecked. The pilot escaped with a severe shaking. Hurricane conditions prevailed off the South Australian coast. Intense cold in southern Queensland caused heavy losses among stock which had been weakened by drotight.
