NO DECISION YET.
Appointment of Successor to Mrs E. R. McCombs. Mr T. H. Butterfield was nominated by Mr W. J. Walter at a meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board today to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mrs E. R. McCombs. No decision was arrived at, the matter being held over, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, until the next ordinary meeting. The acting-general manager (Mr H. E. Jarman), gave formal notice of the vacancy, quoting Section 20 of the Christchurch Tramway Act: "Whenever any vacancy shall occur in the board such vacancy shall be notified to the board by the secretary, and the board shall at its next subsequent ordinary meeting proceed by nomination and ballot to fill such vacancy. No person shall be nominated or elected to fill a casual vacancy whose name does not appear on the electors’ roll as herein defined; - and the member so elected shall hold office until the next general election of the board.” Mr Walter, in nominating Mr Butterfield, said that Mr Butterfield had done great work for the city as a city councillor and in other capacities. Mr G. Manning moved that the matter should be held over until the next meeting. “ I would not like to see a discussion in open board,” he said. Mr Manning’s proposal was agreed to.
