COMEDY AND DRAMA.
“Romance -in Manhattan” and “Very Honourable Guy.” “ A very Honourable Guy,” which heads the j current double-feature programme at the Theatre Royal, must be classed as one of the most humorous productions seen in Christchurch for many a long day. The title of the picture suggests humour, and when Joe E. Brown’s name is coupled with the title, something of an unusual nature is expected. Those expectations are fully realised. Joe Brown is well known to the picture-going public for his humour, and in this production he scores an overwhelming success. “ Romance in Manhattan ” (Ginger Rogers and Francis Lederer), which constitutes the remainder of the programme. is a comedy-drama *of a high standard. The huge city of New York is the background of the production, which follows the life of an immigrant who goes to the city of skyscrapers with great hopes of making good. On his arrival, in what he is led to term an inhospitable city, he is not allowed to enter because of his lack of finance.
