WORK FOUND FOR HIM.
Three Months’ Gaol for Relief Worker. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. Gilbert Henry Lyster, 47 years of age, a carpenter, was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment by Mr E. D. Mosley. S.M.. on a charge of attempting to obtain 15s by false pretences. After reading a list of previous convictions, Mr Mosley remarked that accused had pleaded guilty to stealing a clock last September and had been ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within two years. The order of the Court was not a thing to be played with, said Mr Mosley. Accused said he had been making restitution in connection with a theft, but the Probation Officer said accused had not paid anything. “ I’m only on relief work,” said Lyster. “ I’ll find work for you to do. You needn’t fear,” replied the Magistrate. He imposed a sentence of three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
