Port Curtis, which left Wanganui on April 16 for London, via Cape Horn and Las Palmas, reached London on Sunday. MATAROA RADIOS. Mataroa, which left. Wellington on May 25 for Southampton and London, via the Panama Canal, radios that she reached Pitcairn Island on Sunday. Fine weather has been experienced, and all are well on board. CITY OP SALISBURY AT COLON. City of Salisbury, en route from New York to Auckland, Wellington, Lvttelton. Dunedin and Australia, is reported to have reached Colon last Friday. She is due at Auckland on June 29. TURAKINA LEAVES HALIFAX. Turakina. which sailed from Wellington on April 26, arrived at Halifax from New York last Thursday, and sailed on Saturday. She is now proceeding to Bremerhaven, instead of Hook of Holland, before agoing on to London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow. PERSONAL. Mr Williams is now extra officer of the Waimarino. NEW UNION COMPANY SHIP. The twin-screw passenger and fruitcarrying motor-ship recently stated to be on order for the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand. Ltd., is to be built by Messrs R. and W. Hawthorn. Leslie and Co., Ltd., of Hebburn-on-Tvne. The vessel will be equipped specially for carrying tropical fruit. She will be 351 ft long with 51ft beam and will have a sea speed of 16 knots. Her gross tonnage will be approximately 3 500. This is the vessel of which the brief announcement has been made that she is to be employed for the carrying of fruit, principally bananas, between tin* South Sea Islands and Xew Zelaand, with general cargo on the return passage. The Union Company has been engaged in the fruit-carrying trade for more than forty years, and. although the volume of traffic in bananas from the Fiji Islands, owing to tariff restrictions in Australia, is not as large as it was some years ago, there is need for a faster vessel for the service.
