SAVAGE ALSATIAN.

Little Girl Knocked Down and Bitten. SERIOUS INJURIES. Savagely attacked last evening bv an Alsatian clog. Patricia Carey, barely three years of age. had to be admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with severe injuries to her head. She is a (laughter of Mr and Mrs W. P Carev. 30. Edward Avenue. St Albans. The little girl and her mother were staving with relations in Palsgrave Street. A large Alsatian was kept by the relations as a watch dog. and the child and the dog were considered friends, as she had frequently stayed there. Last evening, as the dog was being fed, the child was standing near its kennel when, without any apparent reason, the animal leapt at her to the extent of its leash, knocked- her facedown wards on' the ground, and began to bite the back of her head. The child’s screams attracted help, and the clog was beaten off and later destroyed. The girl was taken to the Christchurch Hospital, where an operation was performed. This morning her condition was reported as being satisfactory.

Elderly Woman Injured About Face. BRISBANE. May' 29. Flying at the throat of Mrs Martha 1 urner, who is sixtv-two years of age, an Alsatian dog at Wyunum mauled her and inflicted seven deep wounds about her face and arms before it could be beaten off. Mr and Mrs Turner live above their shop, and the dog had been Mr Turner's close companion for vears. While her husband was in the'shop below Mrs Turner entered a bedroom to get a pillow. The dog was lying on the l)ed and when she approached it leaped at her throat. She stumbled back and the fangs tore her face. It then bit her hands and arms, one bite tearing a muscle from her right forearm and exposing the bene. Her cries brought her husband, who beat off the dog and carried her from the room. The woman is now in hospital and the dog has been destroyed.
