“ The Municipal Electricity Department has plenty of funds with which to do away with the unsightly poles and wires for street lighting,” declared the chairman of the Christchurch Beautifying Association (Mr R. B. Owen) when the question of modernising the street lighting system was under discussion at the association’s meeting. He said that the scheme would provide work for the unemployed.
